NBS sponsored the three dinghy national championships being held as part of the regatta, which had 200 boats entered in 17 classes. The sponsorship deal was part of the NBS Friends of the Show campaign which aims to support non-competitive shows and marine events as an additional way of publicising and promoting boating across the UK.

'We are very grateful to National Boat Shows for their help in attracting young people into sailing,' said Martin Edgell, regatta marketing and sponsorship manager. These first moves to attract youngsters came about after the Torbay Youth Sailing Trust - a charity formed by the Royal Torbay Yacht Club to provide sailing opportunities for local youth - displayed its sailing simulator on the Deck Games feature at the 2008 Collins Stewart London Boat Show.

'There is real commitment to make this a major event in the yachting calendar,' said Mr Edgell.
