Trade Show Cancelled
Was the banner headline in July 1996 after a meeting at the Marriott Hotel decided there were not enough exhibitors to make the show viable.
So with commitments and money becoming due for the hire of the site and the marquee in the show was to be held, the organisers, National Boat Shows (NBS) cancelled the show.
To keep exhibitors costs down, NBS had agreed to subsidise the show with £20,000, but only 76 exhibitors had confirmed bookings.

Paul White was promoted from south coast sales manager to sales manager for the Sowester range of chandlery; Mike Gill was appointed sales and marketing director at Mercury Marine and the Bowman Group had appointed Mark Orr as sales and marketing manager, with Richard Bagnall becoming responsible for the Bowman and Rival ranges, while Mike Renshaw handled the Starlights and Sadler. Julian Fawcett was to concentrate on exports.
