Keel-Checker

|
Together with Southampton Solent University, ICOMIA (International Council of Marine Industry Associations) has now launched a free-of-charge online keel checker. Keel-Checker is a testing tool for assessing whether existing keel designs are within the parameters of the new standard. The tool implements the ISO 12215 standard part 9, which recently has gone into Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) voting. It is intended to assist the industry with the many calculations contained within the 70 page part 9. The new standard will be published within three to six months, however given that there only will be editorial changes to the standard, its use is already accepted e.g. to prove compliance with the EU Recreational Craft Directive. Many organisations, such as International Sailing Federation (ISAF), already require that new boats are built according to the new standard. The checker has been developed by Robin Loscombe, a member of the ISO working group and senior lecturer at Southampton Solent University. The software can now be downloaded free of charge from the ICOMIA website as a zip file package together with a user’s manual and a reporting sheet. To access the Keel-Checker, contact the ICOMIA secretariat on info@icomia.com Please note that the Keel-Checker is only for evaluation and does not provide means of compliance with ISO 12215-9. The developer of the Keel-Checker and ICOMIA do not take any responsibility or liability caused by the use of the tool. |
