Nickerson: keep costs low

According to International Paint' s UK sales manager, Graham Nickerson, the China crisis has forced the company to reappraise it pricing structure.

He told Boating Business: "Over the past months we have been notified that the costs of some of our raw materials are increasing substantially, with other rises in the pipeline. The raw materials include metals, which affects packaging as well as items such as copper, which is a main ingredient in our antifoulings.

"We understand from our suppliers that this increase is due to the vast consumption currently being experience in China, which has an insatiable appetite for metals to feed its rapidly expanding industrial output to meet the consumer demand explosion in that country.

"We are therefore currently looking at the pricing structure for our product range in the future to offset some of this current increase in costs.

"We are hoping that that this inflation has peaked and that no further increases will be necessary but we will watch the situation closely. Like all other coating manufacturers around the world we endeavour to keep costs as low as possible but we, like our competitors, are unable to absorb such a substantial increase in the fundamental basis of our products."
