01 Jul 2004

Reflecting the opinions expressed in the main article, Volvo Penta says sales of its engines into China have increased by 50% this year.

"We are announcing the adjustments as a result of the rapidly escalating petroleum based raw material, energy and transportation costs, " said Bill Loven, senior vice president.

Engine sales last year were 2,000 units, but the company claims it has sold 10,000 already in 2004.

Volvo Penta's managing director, Staffan Jufors, says the company will sell around 20,000 engines in China, leading to an increase in exports to China from ?40 million last year to approximately ?200300 million. PN
