Easy Rescue personal beacon
The Easy Rescue is compact, weighing in at only 350g
The Easy Rescue is a personal AIS transmitting beacon. With a built in GPS it transmits an emergency AIS-SART sentence (MOB) which triggers an alarm on all AIS enabled chart plotters and PC’s within range, along with the latitude and longitude co-ordinates of the victim.
The GPS is a new generation fast acquiring type and the VHF AIS transmitter repeats the message and position several times per minute. This enables all vessels within around a 3nm range (dependent on wave and antenna height) to assist with the rescue if they have an AIS receiver or transponder.
The unit sends out a personalised “emergency telegram” to give details of the wearer, and the MMSI of ship may also be transmitted. Further, getting a signal out doesn’t require waiting for the satellites either. This means that no central Coastguard or call centres are required to redistribute the information – and there is no annual charge or subscription. All that is needed, is an AIS receiver or transceiver connected to a chartplotter or PC.
The Easy Rescue maybe attached to a life jacket or kept on a lanyard. To operate just slide the safety cover off (releasing the coiled antenna) and press ON. A test button allows regular tests of the GPS function, battery state etc.
The device sends its transmission (at a power of 2W) for 96 hours after it has been activated, while the long battery standby life time (four years if only used for self testing) means extended service intervals. These are recommended also to be at four yearly intervals, or after use.
The unit is waterproof to standard IP 68, and has been BSH approved. Further, ambient working conditions range between -20°C up to 65°C. It is very compact, measuring only 128 mm by 76mm by 32mm, and weighs in at only 350 grams.
