The final step to perfection

01 Dec 2005

Awlbrite Clear from Awlgrip is, they say, a clear, buffable urethane for marine brightwork that can be applied direct onto wood or act as the final step to perfection and lasting durability in what they call the Awlgrip Ultimate Professional Brightwork System.

The company says Awlbrite Clear offers a far more durable finish than varnish, is faster curing and as easy to apply. In particular, the technology that has been incorporated into this high build, threecomponent acrylic resin, also allows imperfections such as brushwork, runs or sags and even dirt or grit to be easily buffed out with minimum fuss.

However, they point out the key to performance of any varnish system is applying enough material, which is especially true with Awlbrite Clear. It is particularly important to ensure that the full complement of coats is applied to achieve the desired durability and performance as expected of the professional brightwork.

The Awlgrip Ultimate Professional Brightwork System also incorporates Awlbrite Clear as the final, perfecting and lasting layer. Even in the harshest of conditions, this system has been proven to last at least twice as long as ordinary yacht systems.

This system combines the colour that Awlspar Varnish highlights in the wood - giving a traditional look - with the durability of Awlbrite Clear on top for a fast-recoat and relatively easy to repair combination of varnish and urethane coatings.

Traditionally, applying such a topcoat could take up to 60 days to complete. However, with the combination of Awlspar and Awlbrite, both of which allow two or more coats per day, the Ultimate Brightwork System can be achieved in as little as seven to ten days.

This means less downtime in the yard, easy application, traditional appearance, long term durability and low maintenance.
