Approved servicing for all EPIRBs

01 Mar 2008

Sartech Engineering is the leading independent service organisation specialising in 406MHz EPIRBs, PLBs and radar transponders (SARTs).

These vital safety products are only used in dire emergencies, so it is even more important that they be fully tested at regular intervals. Like fire extinguishers and distress flares they are marked with a service date which is frequently ignored by owners. But this could prove a false economy if the vessel were to run into trouble.

The company has more than 15 years experience in support to the commercial and leisure markets, and can provide battery changes and reprogramming for all leading makes, as well as supporting models which are no longer in production.

A full EPIRB service consists of changing the primary battery and seals as recommended by the manufacturer, and live transmission testing in specialised facilities designed and manufactured by Sartech. Use of a 'Faraday Cage' prevents triggering of a satellite distress alert, whilst an external GPS signal can be fed into the beacon to ensure that GPS equipped EPIRBs and PLBs can acquire and transmit their position correctly. Finally an immersion test is carried out to check for watertightness.

Sartech manufactures lithium batteries in-house and its operations are carried out to quality standard ISO9001:2000. In addition, Sartech holds approvals from leading beacon manufacturers including McMurdo, Kannad, and GME.

Collection and delivery can be arranged, as well as service exchange units where time is of the essence.
