Pridding: mitigate the impact

The industry is a broad church and there are understandably differing views on the red diesel issue. I can only say that the BMF has been strongly and widely praised for the work that we have done, in partnership with the RYA, to mitigate the impact that the immediate and abrupt loss of the derogation would have on the industry and the boating market. We now have strong support for our position from politicians and government officials.

Throughout our negotiations with HM Customs officials and politicians we have discussed the need for a renewal of the derogation to be viewed as a transitional period. A renewal of the derogation will provide a 5-year period during which the industry can look to manage change without damaging the market.

The BMF is proud of the work that we have done over the last 15 years to ensure that the industry is playing its part in safeguarding the marine environment. This has included producing an award winning Environmental Code of Practice.

Our Green Blue Environmental education project is going from strength to strength and is giving publicity to advances in technology and those members who are marketing environmentally friendly products.
