REGATTA: We’ve got 11 boats for this year’s Marine Industry Regatta (MIR) sailing on Sunsail’s new fleet of Sunsail 40 boats out of its Port Solent base on Tuesday April 19 and Wednesday April 20.

The current runners and riders are: Barton Marine, Beacon Park Boats, Boating Business, Bruntons, Cooney Marine, Garmin, IPC Marine Media, Mastervolt, Shirlaws, Sunsail and Tacktick.

The new Sunsail 40s take a minimum of eight crew and up to 12 can be on board, although there are only berths for eight. Extra crew will have to stay ashore and Sunsail has deals with some local hotels at reasonable prices.

And this year, the overall winner of the MIR gets a free entry to Sunsail’s Challenge of Champions which is held in November. This is Sunsail’s season ending regatta for all the main winners of their ‘primary’ regattas/events during the year.

MIR price per boat - £1095.00 inc VAT
This includes yacht, fuel, racing premiums, trophy contributions and overnight accommodation on board for the crew of eight.

The price also includes a buffet dinner in the PHYC the night before, a bacon butty breakfast, packed lunch and prize giving tea and cakes for the eight crew.

Additional people can join the meal programme for £37.45 per person (up to a max of 12 on each yacht) and Sunsail can arrange accommodation locally if required. Contact Andy Wallace at Sunsail for details.

Wet weather gear is included for the crew of eight, and extra sets can be supplied for £6pp.

The price also includes a £100 donation per yacht to the John Merrick Sailing Trust, which needs to be paid for separately on a cheque.

The programme remains the same as previous years. We collect the boats on the evening of Tuesday April 19, after which there’s a buffet supper in the Portsmouth Harbour Yacht Club in Port Solent. On Wednesday April 20 we try to run four races, but this is entirely the decision of the PHYC race officer.

After the racing there’s tea and buns and the prizegiving in the PHYC. The day generally finishes around 17.30/18.00.

The Marine Industry Regatta is supported by Boating Business, British Sailing, Practical Boat Owner, Saltwater, Sunsail and Yachting Monthly and is run in aid of the John Merricks Sailing Trust.
