The PME Group has become the sole dealer for MAN engines in the UK following an announcement at this year’s Seawork International.

"Having already been a main dealer for over 20 years, the move by MAN is further recognition of PME’s strength in the market, especially in light of Brexit," Jade Chalk, commercial director, PME, told Boating Business.

“Appointing PME as sole UK distributor for its engines, MAN is sending a clear indication of its continued interest in the longevity of the UK market.”

“There is a continued strong demand for MAN engines from the UK leisure marine market and the offshore windfarm vessel markets,” added Peter Chalk, managing director, PME Group.

The market split for MAN engines in the UK, according to PME, is 60/40% towards the leisure market.

He told BB that demand for MAN engines in the leisure market is increasing year by year with yacht builders such as Princess and Sunseeker.

Along with the increased demand for MAN engines comes increased demand for after care and servicing, which will Mr Chalk said will continue to grow, especially now that MAN is offering and extended warranty with its engines.

Andrew Mallard, general manager of MAN, Engine and Components UK, said that there was a real buzz at Seawork this year.

He said: “We’ve chosen Seawork to announce our news as it’s the mainstay of the business and the only true commercial show in the UK and we thought it was the perfect showcase to announce a major change in our business.”

“Seawork gives us a good opportunity to network and, unlike other exhibitions, you feel as if business is being done. You feel like you’re really achieving something. We’ve been at Seawork since its infancy and in the past five years it’s gone from strength to strength.”
