Guest speaker announced for Women in the Marine Industry event
Harbour master Wendy Stowe is the guest speaker at the Women in the Marine Industry networking event
One of the first female harbour master's is to be the guest speaker at next week’s Women in the Marine Industry networking event.
Wendy Stowe, who runs the Beaulieu River Buckler’s Hard Yacht Harbour, will talk about her role and the impact the Competent Harbour Master qualification has had on encouraging new and younger people into the industry.
She will also explain how the course is changing the traditional association of harbour masters being ex-naval officers.
Ms Stowe started her career as a seasonal coxswain patrol officer while studying maritime leisure management at Southampton University.
Her first full-time role was as assistant harbour master for the River Hamble, where she was promoted to deputy harbour master.
She recently completed the UK Harbour Masters’ Association’s Harbour Master Certificate and is proud to be the custodian of the privately-owned Beaulieu River and also to inspire females to follow in her footsteps in a male-dominated industry.
The event is sponsored by Barton Marine and hosted by British Marine. It will take place from 5.30pm to 6.50pm on September 19 at TheYachtMarket.com Southampton Boat Show in the British Marine members and exhibitors lounge.
The event is designed to include all women in the industry, whether they are exhibiting at the show or not.
