BMEA Conference Day 2010
Paul Holland, BMEA chairman, introduces the BMEA Conference Day
The 2010 British Marine Electronics Association Conference runs on Wednesday October 20 at the Portsmouth Marriott Hotel, with presentations by distinguished speakers and, of course, the BMEA Awards.
CONFERENCE: The 2010 British Marine Electronics Association Conference, sponsored by Victron Energy, provides an opportunity for all sides of the marine industry to get together, not only to discuss topics of mutual interest, but also to create and build beneficial business relationships.
Introduced by Paul Holland, BMEA chairman, the conference will include a number of presentations by distinguished speakers. Among the subjects that will be covered are; Organising the ARC: 675,000 miles; 250 yachts; 1,250 people and 30 languages by Jeremy Wyatt (World Cruising Club), The History of Electronic Cartography and its Future by Giuseppi Carnevali (Navionics), The Navico Broadband Radar by Odin Sletten (Navico), and An update on the London Boat Show' by Andrew Williams (National Boat Shows).
Professor W J Mullarkey (db Research) will give a presentation on today's digital radar signal processing and Patrick Beasley from QuinetiQ will present High resolution FM CW radar for harbour and coastal surveillance.
After a full day of conferencing followed by the Annual General Meeting, there will be the annual dinner which will see four major awards announced:
• BMEA Waterside Dealer of the Year Award sponsored by Garmin UK
• BMEA Product of the Year Award sponsored by Boating Business
• BMEA Newly Certificated Technician of the Year Award sponsored by Raymarine UK
• BMEA Lifetime Achievement Award
Ian Lockyer (BMEA Marketing) said: ‘Our customers will again have the opportunity to choose the Industry’s Dealer and Product of the Year by simply going to bmea.org/dealer-and-product-of-the-year-2010/ and voting.’
The BMEA Newly Certificated Technician of the Year Award will be chosen from a shortlist of newly certificated engineers across the industry, he added. ‘The BMEA Lifetime Achievement Award is a new honour which will be given annually to someone who we feel has contributed to our extremely vibrant and fast developing industry.’
The conference is open to all in the marine industry – and is free for up to two delegates from BMEA member companies; additional delegates, and non-BMEA members will be charged £59 per person – to include entrance to all the presentations, coffee, lunch and dinner. The day starts with registration at 09.30. The conference starts at 10.30 prompt.
