BMEA Conference 'a great success'
BB's Kate Didymus presents the BMEA Product of the Year Award to Phil Whitehurst, managing director of Actisense
CONFERENCE: The 2009 British Marine Electronics Association (BMEA) Conference took place on October 21 at the Novotel Hotel, Southampton. The event, sponsored by Victron Energy, had over 80 delegates from all over the marine electronic and electrical sectors of the marine industry.
The BMEA welcomed its USA counterpart, the National Marine Electronic Association (NMEA). David Hayden, president of the NMEA gave an interesting overview of the NMEA and the work that it does. Following the formal conference day, Steve Spitzer, technical director and Dave Morschhauser, assistant technical director of the NMEA gave a presentation on NMEA 2000 with a hands-on 'Connect Fest' demonstration of NMEA 2000 interfacing.
'The conference was a great success,' said Paul Holland, BMEA chairman. 'The key involvement with the NMEA has given us an excellent springboard to launch our comprehensive range of training schemes not only for electronic but electrical technicians as well.'
The day finished with the presentation of three awards - the BMEA Waterside Dealer of the Year Award, sponsored by Garmin, went to Jonathan Bagge of Landau; the BMEA Product of the Year Award, sponsored by Boating Business, went to Phil Whitehurst of Actisense; and the BMEA Newly Certificated Technician of the Year Award sponsored by Raymarine, went to Roger Upham.
