BMW batteries power Torqeedo boats

BMW batteries The high-voltage compact battery was developed for the BMW i3 car

BMW’s high-capacity i3 batteries are powering boats fitted with Torqeedo’s electric outboard motors, in a partnership that enables emission-free operation and speeds of up to 160hp.

It is hoped that the technology will soon be used as a sustainable, silent alternative in other water vehicles, including yachts and commercial marine applications.

The high-voltage compact battery, developed for the BMW i3 car, is designed to provide shock resistance.

The technology also allows an even temperature distribution and effective cooling, increasing its suitability for offshore use.

The batteries can be reused as energy storage for buildings after they have completed their life in vessel or vehicle, rather than being recycling prematurely.
