Garmin International has integrated Carling Technologies’ OctoPlex monitoring and electrical distribution control system into the its OneHelm integrated control solution.

The OctoPlex system provides vessel monitoring and gives the user status awareness and control of all distributed AC and DC loads.

The integration will enable Garmin control screens to access and control functionalities including onscreen monitoring and control of AC and DC circuit breakers, AC load shedding, lighting control, plus additional electrical componentry control that may be installed.

“Carling has been extremely pleased to have worked with Garmin to enable integration of OctoPlex control within the Garmin OneHelm solution and is gratified that Garmin, known for innovation and product quality, has recognized the value of the OctoPlex system to the boat owner/operator,” said Rick Sorenson, Carling Tech president.

Safety and reliability

OctoPlex uses the NMEA 2000 CAN bus network communication, with safety and reliability achieved through redundant architecture to negate the risk of single point failure.

In addition, Carling Tech has launched OctoLite, a ‘cutdown’ version of OctoPlex.

“The undertoe in the industry is that of going away from conventional wiring and moving to an automotive style product,” explained Julian Potter, Carling Tech sales manager EMEA marine.

“People want to monitor what the boat is doing while they’re at home, need something like this to achieve it.”

He added: “OctoLite is a distribution system that’s more cost-effective and easier to fit.”

The DC solid state power controller is the latest addition to the OctoPlex line of distributed power control and monitoring system products.

It is designed to operate on the CAN Bus NMEA-2000 communication network and features 12 programmable load control outputs while providing 100 amps of continuous operation in temperature range of -30 ̊C to +70 ̊C.
