Environmentally friendly options are required
The refrigeration and air conditioning industry is continually looking to move to more environmentally friendly options says Zeb Elliot of Penguin Refrigeration.
Other factors driving developments are onboard power management and the growing desire to control a boat’s heating and air con whilst onboard and also away from the boat.
When it comes to refrigerants, the good news, says Zeb, is that the compressors using the latest environmentally friendly refrigerants are more efficient than their predecessors with lower start loads that in turn put less demand on a boats’ electrical system on start up.
“Power management is always a major factor onboard, with boats becoming ever more complex and the shore power often limited,” he said. “To further aid and maximise the power available Climma has developed an easy start system for its compact air conditioning units, which reduces the compressors start load by up to 60%.”
The Climma EZ Start learns from the first couple of compressor starts and automatically adapts to the power available and remembers this for future start-ups.
The EZ Start also allows the AC units to run from a shore supply when limited amps are available or there is an unstable shore power supply.
The system is available in five sizes from 5,000 to 72,000 BTU and can be retro fitted to existing Climma Compact MK3 models, the Split MK3 range and Aquacontrol chillers.
Climma has also developed its C-Touch touch screen display that is designed at keeping pace with demands for luxury and onboard comfort.
The touch screen thermost is used with Climma’s self-contained units and fan coils. It is designed to fit the Vimar and Bticino cover plates and has an easy to use interface with a 320mm by 240mm LED display, making it easy to read as well as straight forward to use and operate.
