Book NOW for this year’s Leather & Lycra
Danny John-Jules: the Red Dwarf Cat will be running the charity auction
Places are running out on the 4th running of the popular Leather & Lycra event at this year’s PSP Southampton Boat Show, so you need to get your booking in ASAP to make sure of a place as a runner or a rider.
LEATHER & LYCRA: This year’s 4th running of the Leather & Lycra charity event is rapidly filling up. And with Red Dwarf’s The Cat, aka actor Danny John-Jules, coming along (with his pink motorbike), we also have people booking just to come along to the meal after the event, where he'll be running the charity auction.
Because we need to give the caterers final numbers for the meal, we must have pre-payment from all who want to come along. The cost is £15 a head to cover the cost of the meal (plus a drink) and leave little bit over as a donation to the Riders for Health charity we’re supporting.
Those who have pre-paid will get a wristband on the night. No wristband; no ride or run. And no meal or entrance to the charity auction.
As well as the motorcycle run from Herbert Walker Avenue to Christchurch and back for the leather clad, those wearing lycra have a 5-mile jog circuit around Southampton (faster runners can do two laps if they wish).
When both groups return – scheduled for 20.30ish – there will be changing and shower facilities at the Holiday Inn Fitness Lounge, after which there will be a meal – Thai with meat and veggie options - in the Windward Hall lounge, followed by more fundraising and the presentation of cheques/monies to the night’s charity, Riders for Health riders.org
The riders using Triumph-supplied bikes pay an extra charity donation of £25 to ride one of the machines. All 15 Triumph bikes have been reserved (and paid for!), but this doesn’t stop anyone who wants to bring their own bike along for the event. They’ll pay just the £15.
The runners will set off in twos and threes – this isn’t a race; just a jog in company. National Boat Shows (NBS) will be on hand - thanks to Land Rover support - at points around the route and printed copies of the route will be available before the start.
And with Garmin another major sponsor this year, we’ll have GPS on some of the Triumphs and GPS watches will be available for some of the runners. Garmin will give some training on both types of GPS before the off.
Both bike and runner groups are due to set off at 19.00 prompt. The routes are designed to get everyone back to the show to eat in the Windward Hall lounge at 21.00.
We’d also like to give huge thanks to the following companies: Boating Business, Cooney Marine, Nicola Charles Promotions, Trend Marine , Phoenix Marine, Trinity Marine, Blackburns Metals, Lion Insurance, Elite Furnishings and Rightons – and not forgetting the huge support from Garmin, Triumph and NBS as without them this event could not happen.
