LEISURE SHOW: Back for a second year, the 2011 British Leisure Show and the new British Motor Festival, runs this weekend, with the star boat of the show being a Sealine S35.

In addition, says MD James Brooke, it’s looking like a very good show with a great selection of marine companies from the local area including Bates Wharf, Lindon Lewis, Val Wyatt and Penton Hook.

And Mr Brooke also has something very special happening at the show. Martin Holliman played a big part in the development of the show. So there will be the presentation of the Martin Holliman Award on the Saturday night.

‘I feel this is a way we can celebrate Martin’s life and the passion he had for running exhibitions, and also recognise individual effort,’ Said Mr Brooke. ‘The success of events like these often directly relates to the effort made by individuals, and Martin was an extraordinary example of this. He lived and breathed every exhibition he organised, and he had a unique way of doing it. I hope this award becomes a fitting legacy for such a special man.’

The Martin Holliman Award recognises outstanding individual contribution from exhibitors, partners and sponsors of the British Leisure Show, and will be presented to the winner at 6pm on Saturday March 12 in the main grandstand at the Royal Windsor Racecourse.

The show itself has had a lot of promotion. ‘We’re using some new media channels this year, including television,’ said Mr Brooke. ‘There’ll be over 100 adverts running on ITV Meridian prior to the show, and we’re also hitting the local press hard. Over 100,000 show guides will be distributed free through newspapers prior to the show as supplements in Windsor, Eton, Ascot, Maidenhead and Slough.’ And there’s also a large emphasis on outdoor signage in Berkshire, he added.

The proposition is simple for exhibitors: The BLS is all about meeting new customers, from an affluent area. And the show includes the new British Motor Festival alongside the BLS this year with exhibitors and owners clubs taking stands including Rolls Royce, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Porsche, Harley Davidson, Ducati and Triumph.

Ticket sales are also up over 50% up on last year, largely due to a reader ticket offer in the Mail on Sunday which featured the BLS prominently in its Lifestyle Supplement.

The Velos Boats & Watersports Zon' features something for all boating enthusiasts with motor, sailing and sportsboats, RIBs, Thames cruisers, inland waterways and watersports such as rowing, canoeing and kayaking, kitesurfing and windsurfing.

And apart from boats and cars, this really is a family show, with a Mountain Bike Experience, Archery, the British Food Hall, Bushcraft and Survival, Design a Royal Wedding Cake (really!), VW vans, Face Painting, Fergus the Tractor, Gun Dog Scurries, Have a go at Motorcycling, Treasure Trails, Pony Rides. And more…

The British Leisure Show runs at the Royal Windsor Racecourse from Friday March 11 to Sunday March 13.
