Lack of buy in

I am concerned, really concerned not about Brexit or all of the other political mish mash, ultimately that will all be sorted out by those money men really in charge. No I am concerned by the total lack of buy in to environmental issues surrounding the leisure marine sector, by our customers.

Let me quantify this a little.

While business and associated, representative bodies acknowledge the issues around environmental practice, I still see or hear little from the customers direct which leads me to consider they care at all.

Every time I attend a trade type event the environmental rightly receives attention, I attend public shows and the customers don’t seem to give a hoot!

There does seem to be an ‘I don’t really care’ attitude which seems to be almost systemic within the demographic of leisure marine man.

My concern is based on the view that we do seem to seriously lag behind most other leisure sectors in this matter, which can only end with us under the microscope at some stage soon.

The environmental impact of our industry will become a big, big issue if it does not get addressed.

So how do you change a view of your customers which are so different to that which you want to promote?

How, well in the end start you would have to argue that changing the view of those that are set, can only be changed with the positive help of the young.

By that I mean make the environmental issues cool, not just an industry tick box issue.

It well could be a most serious concern for all of our industry in the coming years if we don’t get our customers to have the same environmental conviction in as we all have.

In the end that has to come from your business head as well as your own heart.
