A great 2014…

The latest in European news from European Boating Industry

2015 has just started and January was incredibly busy with the 3rd international conference on exports and trade, as well as our Assembly General, Council and many other meetings, all taking place during boot Düsseldorf in Germany.

Yet we’d like to pause for a moment and let you know what European Boating Industry achieved for the sector in 2014.

One of our biggest successes is the launch of the electronic guide explaining the new Recreational Craft Directive 2013/53/EU.

Presented at METS Amsterdam last November, this iPad (and PDF) application explains all you need to know to build and trade boats, personal watercraft, engines and certain components on the EU single market.

Placing compliant products on the market is not the sole responsibility of manufacturers. The whole supply chain involving importers and distributors has to take part in this exercise and will be accountable for it.

Our guide is available in English, with translated versions under preparation. Please take a look at www.europeanboatingindustry.eu/appsite

Other key actions in 2014 include starting up an EU funded project called TCC-SCV which analyses and compares professional qualifications for skippers on smaller commercial vessels (more on www.tcc-scv.eu) and continuing work on boat dismantling with Boat DIGEST which ends in 2015 (more on www.boatdigest.eu).

Looking at the political work, we lobbied for only large emitting ships to have the obligation to report and monitor their CO2 emissions as they account for 90% of emissions from the maritime world.

In 2014, European Boating Industry’s president, vice-presidents and secretary general spoke at numerous conferences as a reference organisation for boating issues.

In the field of trade, we continue working with our US counterpart, the NMMA, to facilitate trade between the EU and US. We also run bilateral actions for trade with Russia and China.
