Europe Maritime Day

The latest in European news from European Boating Industry

This year the European Maritime Day will be held in Piraeus (Greece) on 28-29 May.

The 2-day event is gathering over 1,000 people from all marine and maritime areas. Exhibitions, public happenings and stakeholders’ workshops will focus on ports and coasts as engines for Blue Growth.

European Boating Industry (EBI) together with Europêche and European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF) were selected by the European Commission (EC) to organise a workshop on work mobility of seafarers on small vessels.

The workshop will look at common problems faced by the boating and fishing industries in Europe, when it comes to the lack of acceptance of seafarers’ qualifications by other Member States.

Our speakers include Ms Ribeiro, Member of European Parliament, Ms Gminder and Mr Tomaras from the European Commission, together with boating business experts like Fanis Kiriacoulis, CEO of Kiriacoulis Group and Silja Teege, Director of Sea Teach and leader of the EU projects TRECVET and TCC-SCV.

The TCC-SCV project is a follow-up of TRECVET and was recently launched to analyse and compare the professional qualifications for captains on small commercial vessels in six EU countries. More info on www.tcc-scv.eu

One of the key objectives of the workshop is to examine possible solutions to the mobility problem and discuss implementing measures in order to facilitate the recognition of skills and qualifications of our professionals across Europe.

You are all invited to join us in Athens and can find more info on ec.europa.eu/maritimeaffairs/maritimeday/en/piraeus-2015
