Skippers without borders

It is our pleasure to announce the date for the final conference “Skippers working without Borders” that will take place on Thursday, 16 June 2016 in Brussels (Belgium).

The event is free of charge and organised by European Boating Industry (EBI) together with the TCC-SCV partners.

It will mark the conclusion of the 2-year EU project on professional skippers’ qualifications on small commercial vessels called TCC-SCV.

Let’s just remind here that currently, professional skippers holding a country specific small commercial vessel licence (SCV) can only operate craft under that flag and have to re-qualify to be eligible to command identical vessels under different national flags in Europe.

European Boating Industry, professional skippers and the TCC-SCV partners assessed this situation as problematic for European skippers and shipowners, and decided to work together to address this issue.

The conference is meant for all parties with an interest in professional navigation, such as national maritime authorities and EU Flag States, professional skippers, crew agencies, charter companies, shipowners, training institutes and their respective professional organisations.

At the conference, the TCC-SCV team will present the outcomes of the project, which involved the analysis of seven national qualification curricula and the creation of a dedicated database and software tool enabling the comparison of the national qualifications.

Building on these results, the project also developed the TRECVET Core Curriculum for Skippers of Small Commercial Vessels, which will be presented at this occasion for the first time to the public. It embeds in a single curriculum the commonalities of seven sets of national qualifications from UK, Germany, Spain, France, Czech Republic, Croatia and Slovenia.
