The IMG Regional Marina Conference in Puerto Calero in May 2015 was well attended with international consultants and national boating federation representatives.
All attended a day of presentations on key topics around issues affecting the world’s boating industry.
The exciting programme covered areas such as the growth of nautical tourism in the Canaries, design, global trends, the importance of customer service and control systems for maintaining quality services.
Delegates also included sector representatives of the Canarian marina and boatyard managers, the maritime captaincy, cruising associations and teachers and students from the island’s maritime college.
The shift towards the leisure industry was discussed with an emphasis on why marinas should seek integration within the community, ensuring an accessible and attractive place to visit with sufficient range of complimentary facilities and social events.
Comments from delegates on the event were tremendously positive, with professional operators delighted with the quality of material imparted by IMG members and calls for more information on the structured and very successful training systems creating in countries such as New Zealand, Australia and the UK.
On behalf of Calero Marinas, Managing Director José Juan Calero said, “Our sincere thanks to IMG members for their good will and generosity in sharing the wealth of their experience and also to everyone who came to enjoy the lectures.
“It was particularly satisfying to see such a great attendance of teachers and students from the maritime college (Instituto Politécnico F.P. Marítimo-Pesquero de Canarias) and their interest in developing studies within the college to be able to create necessary skilled workers for what is without doubt a growing industry in the Canaries.”
