Robotic boat to the rescue
A crowdfunding bid is being launched to build a multi-million pound robot boat to mark the 400th anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower out of Plymouth.
The Mayflower autonomous ship will be a 21st century version of the Mayflower able to sail without crew from Plymouth UK to Plymouth, USA in 2020.
The boat will be solar powered, with battery and renewable energy capture with the team hoping she will sail to inhospitable parts of the world to conduct scientific research and collect data. She will carry unmanned aerial vehicles plus life rafts allowing her to respond to distress calls. Just imagine being rescued by a robot boat.
