Mark Luffingham - Person Behind the Face
How I got into this industry… My mother saw an advert for a sales manager/director at marine electronics manufacturer Stowe Marine. The following morning, I went to look at the building, met the MD and that evening submitted my CV. 185 applicants and four interviews later, the job was mine.
Best advice I've ever received.... Turnover feeds ego – profit feeds your belly.
You should really read.... The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. It is the only 1,000-page book I have read that I did not want to put down.
One thing the industry needs less of is.... Talking to ourselves when we should be talking to customers.
Most hated buzzword or workplace expression… Synergy - often used when typically there is very little. It’s a word that should NOT be used on an on-going basis.
Best place I’ve been.... Oman – it has everything. However, after spending a lifetime travelling round the world, I still feel blessed when I arrive home and see the wonderful Hampshire countryside that I am privileged to live in.
Don't worry about... Anything you cannot influence
Favourite meal… My wife Anna is the best cook I know and so anything she brings to the table wins my approval.
How I cope with stress… I rename it ‘today’s reality,’ just treat it as such and just deal with it
Something about you that people might be surprised by… I had my 21st birthday in the USA and have made 116 transatlantic flights since then, visiting 45 of the 50 states.
