A controversial multi million pound planning application to build a 250-berth marina, together with hotel, restaurant, supermarket, homes and a retirement village has been submitted in North Devon.

PLANNING: The controversial application for Torridge Marina Village between Northam and Appledore in North Devon will also include a boatyard, workshop, a crane for lifting boats and a power washer, writes Katina Read.

‘We do need to convince people this will bring real economic opportunities for the area,’ said developer spokesman Ian Thorn. ‘This is a huge investment and we’ve set out our proposals that I am sure fit in terms of planning guidance.’

The developer, LTPH Properties, says the scheme reflects a range of local needs and it’s often the case that consultations attract people more likely to oppose or those who have concerns, worries or challenges, with the application.

‘People become very concerned about modern developments,’ said Mr Thorn, ‘but things can be designed to overcome these problems by producing something of high quality.’
