In order to ensure effective power management at sea without harming the environment, distributor Technical Marine Supplies has added the new Watt & Sea POD 600 hydrogenerator to its range.

Launched in January this year, the hydrogenerator is an energy self-sufficient solution for cruise or race boats, evolving from the transom-mounted Cruising 300 and 600 models.

“The POD 600 can be mounted onto the hull behind the keel, removing the visual impact of having a hydro fixed to your transom, getting in the way of swim platforms, self-steering and the like," explains sales manager, Tim Parsons.

"The model has a relay system that allows it to disengage the generator when the system no longer requires energy and it can produce up to 600W of power.”

The product’s origins stem from ocean racing research; the first Watt & Sea hydrogenerator was introduced in 2008 with the objective of an optimal output associated to a negligible drag, letting the boat sail with a positive energy while loading the batteries.

Since then the range has adapted and grown and its most recent addition is an ideal solution for sailing boats unable to fasten the existing hydrogenerator models to their transom for technical, mechanical or even aesthetic reasons.

Tim concludes: “Whilst there’s no denying that without technology the modern world would be a very different place, there’s a strong argument the environment would be better off without some technology that inadvertently harms it.

"We therefore give the environment top priority when sourcing products for customers - we all have a responsibility to buy products that do not impact the environment they will be used in.”
