As it’s the start of the sailing season, Wilks has been busy advising trade and retail customers on impact profile solutions.

The company manufactures and distributes a wide range of fendering and rub rail profiles to meet the demand of a variety of vessels, as well as pontoon fendering specifically designed for use as dock bumper upon moorings, landings and floating pontoons.

The business reports its profiles have come on’ leaps and bounds’ over the years, but it is not complacent and is always looking to ‘up its game’, particularly when it comes to navigability of selection, performance and easy-fitting.

Fendering system

As a result, in April last year BUMP! - a simple to fit, versatile fendering system – was developed.

“The system comprises just two parts: a clip-on non-marking body and a PVC track, making it our most simple fendering profile to date,” said joint MD, Chris Berry. “It offers superb performance but importantly it’s easy to fit saving valuable time.”

The profile was developed following customer demand for a modern finish with no front fastenings.

Clean and simple

The finished look is clean and simple and can be completed with stainless steel end caps. And, says Chris, the system isn’t just aesthetically pleasing - it can handle curves and an 80mm radius without the need to mitre either the track or body.

BUMP! has proven popular with small to medium leisure boatbuilders in the UK and Europe and more recently the Gulf region.

Due to the product’s popularity, Wilks is now looking to expand the range, which currently comes in 53mm and 65mm, with a larger size profile this autumn.

Work is also underway on a new range of profiles that incorporate stainless and semi rigid PVC for both the retail and trade markets.
