PSP SBS: The 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards Corps of Drums opened the 2011 PSP Southampton Boat Show by marching through Mayflower Park to the opening ceremony.
During the ceremony, the Coldstream Guards were joined by Michelin star celebrity chef and show ambassador, Shaun Rankin, together with Frank and Jo Dixie of title sponsor PSP.
“The PSP Southampton Boat Show is set to be a fantastic 10 day event and it’s already started with such a spectacular display from the Coldstream Guards,” said Murray Ellis, MD of National Boat Shows (NBS). “Brand new attractions this year mean we really have something for everyone: an unrivalled collection of boats, great food features and action packed on-water activities.”
The drummers of the Coldstream Guards – who performed at April’s Royal wedding - are believed to have been formed into a Corps of Drums in 1872 as part of the Cardwell Reforms. However, unlike many military bands, the Corps of Drums is comprised very much of infantry soldiers and the musical and ceremonial role is an extra task over and above normal duties.
After the show opening Mr Rankin began preparation for cooking live for visitors in the Sea Kitchen Theatre – showing how to cook using his recipes for fresh seafood.
“Outside of the kitchen,” he said. “I’ve always been a keen fisherman and I’m looking forward to sharing my passion for fresh, locally sourced seafood with show visitors.”
