British Marine Trades Association has launched a new award to highlight the large variety of career opportunities in the UK marine industry.

The award was presented at Southampton Boat Show Apprenticeship Graduation Awards to C-Quip apprentice, Alex Bere, who began work with the company after completing his Level three Business Administration NVQ and is now working towards his Level four studies.

“We were looking for an individual with ambition, determination and commitment and I’m pleased to say we found one,” said C-Quip MD, Ian Cooke.

“The British Marine graduation ceremony gave C-Quip the chance to show the industry just how proud we are of Alex and how important apprenticeships of all types are to the industry.”

Now in its seventh year, the awards celebrate apprentices from all areas of the industry, in roles varying from marine engineers to non-marine specific disciplines such as IT and business administration.

Apprentices from eight member companies were recognised at this year’s awards from Berthon Boat Company, C-Quip, Golden Arrow Marine, Offshore Performance, Princess Yachts, RS Sailing, Spinlock and Sunseeker International.

The marine industry now has more than 500 apprentices working and learning in around 100 businesses.
