Yachtsman dies at Weymouth Sailing Club
A man has died after a Westerly GK29 fell on him.
The accident happened at Weymouth Sailing Club storage boatyard – no-one else was involved.
In a statement club commodore, Euan McNair, said: “It is with much regret that I confirm there was a tragic incident at Weymouth Sailing Club yesterday involving a single person and a boat in storage. Emergency services attended very quickly and took control of the situation, but unfortunately a man died at the scene.”
Mr McNair said no further comment could be made as the incident is subject to a joint investigation between Dorset Police and the Health and Safety Executive. The findings of the investigation will be handed to HM Coroner in due course.
“The whole sailing club is obviously devastated at this tragic incident and our thoughts go out to the families concerned,” he added.
“I can state that the boat concerned had been ashore for almost a week and no boat moves were scheduled.”
It is understood the man is Kevin Keeler from Weymouth and that he was carrying out repairs on the Westerly GK29 yacht.
