Lowland Canal narrowboat breaks available in 2018
Canal users can look forward to narrowboat breaks on the Lowland Canals in the new season thanks to a new deal which will ensure its award-winning hire boat fleet’s future is secure.
The new partnership between Scottish Canals and three hire boat fleets will ensure that holidaymakers can still sail in the shadow of The Kelpies and take a turn on The Falkirk Wheel into 2018 and beyond.
“We’re absolutely delighted to enter this new partnership, which will ensure the award-winning hire boat fleet on the Lowland Canals continues to offer holidaymakers a unique way to explore Scotland,” said Katie Hughes, director of estates and commerce at Scottish Canals.
The deal secures the future of seven staff and the 19 vessels operated by ABC Boat Hire, Black Prince Narrowboat Holidays and Marine Cruises from their base at The Falkirk Wheel.
Previously, the future of the hire boat fleet was left in doubt when operator Capercaillie Cruisers announced its intention to stop trading.
More than 4,000 people take to the waters of the Lowland Canals each year for a holiday afloat, with Scottish Canals aiming to grow that figure in future years.
