Will Ben Jelf get YJA/Pantaenius Young Sailor of the Year?

POWERBOATS: Beating his own record, eleven year old Ben Jelf from Maidstone, Kent, posted a new GT15 World Speed Record of 43.11mph by the end of the recent 41st Coniston Records Week.

The youngster not only joined the famous record attempts of Sir Henry Segrave, Sir Malcolm Campbell and Donald Campbell in the history books, he is also a nominee in the 2011 YJA/Pantaenius Young Sailor of the Year, along with laser Radial sailor Elliot Hanson and 420 sailors Annabel Vose and Megan Brickwood.

The Young Sailor of the Year winner will be announced at the Tullett Prebon London Boat Show on the Knowledge Box feature at 14:10 on Saturday 7 January 2012.

Nominees for the 2011 YJA Pantaenius Yachtsman of the Year award are Ben Ainslie CBE, Dee Caffari MBE and OK World Champion, RS400 National champion and five times winner of the Endeavour Trophy, Nick Craig.

The winner of the YJA Pantaenius Yachtsman of the Year will be announced at an awards ceremony at midday on Tuesday 10 January 2012 at Trinity House, Tower Hill, London.

Both awards will be decided by a secret ballot of Yachting Journalists’ Association members.
