Glowfast sail tapes: now there's no excuse for bad trimming at night
SAILMAKING: Night sailing has always been a problem for race boats, requiring torches to highlight Windex and sails to enable trimmers to see what they need to get the best trim.
Using patented technology, Gloowfast's revolutionary tape can provide more than 20 hours of luminous sail shape from as little as 10 minutes of exposure to light. The stripes then recharge during their next exposure to either natural or torchlight.
They are made using similar base materials to current sail tapes and as such are lightweight, durable and easy to fit to either new sails or retrofitted to cleaned older sails. The stripes will stick to most fabrics, whether fore and aft or downwind sails.
A number of round the world race boats and successful offshore campaigns have already used the luminous stripes to great effect with claims that overnight performance can increase by as much as 20%, through improved sail trim and boat handling during the hours of darkness.
