LBS: British Waterways (BW) is installing 600m of new pontoons in Liverpool’s Albert and Salthouse docks to accommodate an extra 200 display and visiting craft at the first Liverpool Boat Show, writes Harry Arnold.
The Liverpool Boat Show venue is amongst the largest group of Grade I listed buildings in Britain - in one of the most architecturally stunning waterfronts in the world - within which BW owns the 35 hectares of water space.
‘It’s exciting to see the new pontoons being installed in the docks, which will allow us to accommodate an array of different size boats creating a boat show unlike any other in this unique and historical setting,’ said Julie Sharman, BW head of regeneration north.
Rob Mackenzie, MD of show organiser Marine Industry Events, added: ‘The pontoons represent a real legacy investment, creating the infrastructure which will enable the Liverpool Boat Show to run for years to come.’
We expect some 400,000 people to visit the show, making it one of the biggest events of its kind in the world, and the pontoons will enable our paying visitors to get incredibly close to the vessels on display, he added.
The Liverpool Boat Show runs over 10 days from April 29 to May 8, 2011 and is being delivered by Marine Industry Events in partnership with Liverpool City Council, the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), Liverpool Vision, British Waterways, Albert Dock Liverpool, The Mersey Partnership, Gower Street Estates and the Liverpool Waterfront Partnership.
