RETIREMENT: Rob Stevens announced his retirement as chief executive of the British Marine Federation (BMF) today after six and a half years. He will leave in the autumn, after the PSP Southampton Boat Show.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the British Marine Federation and announce my departure with mixed emotions; however, I do now need to create some leisure time to accommodate my plans to travel and develop my other interests,” said Mr Stevens. “I have been proud to represent such a vibrant and successful industry but feel that the time is now right for me to pursue the other interests.”
I am also confident that, following the recent restructuring, the BMF is very well placed to help lead the industry through these difficult and uncertain economic times, he added.
“I always planned to leave after the Olympics,” Mr Stevens told BB this afternoon. The future for Mr Stevens and his wife Viv holds some travelling and some sailing. But he told us he probably wouldn’t be retiring just yet.
“I don’t want to work quite as flat out as I have done with the BMF,” he insisted, “but I don’t feel I can quite hang up my boots just yet.”
Sailing in the West Indies comes first, followed by a trip down to New Zealand to see Mrs Stevens’ mother. “We’ll go via some of the Pacific islands, then spend some time sailing out in New Zealand, getting back about April next year.”
Recruitment for the BMF CEO position will begin in March.
