RYA Volvo Dinghy Show as popular as ever

Colourful and friendly – a great show
The Ally Pally dinghy show was so popular on the Saturday the organisers had to close the car parks at 11.30.
DINGHY SHOW: But never fear, the organisers got the full car parks sorted and visitors were given map and directions to two multi storey car parks in Wood Green where a shuttle bus was provided to get them back to Alexandra Palace, writes Peter Nash.
Others chose to park on local streets and get some exercise walking up the hill. The Sunday proved a little less crowded, although I was still diverted to a car park that (thankfully) had a shuttle bus back up the hill.
So day two of the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show 2010, in association with Yachts and Yachting and Suzuki, brought dinghy enthusiasts from across the country and the world.
With a kids go free policy on Sunday the halls were jam packed with youngsters, all demanding stickers from the exhibitors to qualify for treasure hunt prizes and families enjoying talks galore. There was everything on offer from your essential checklist for buying a secondhand boat, to insider tips on improving your upwind performance.
As always, this was a friendly show with lots of smiling faces and people obviously enjoying themselves. Windsurfing also made a welcome return to the show with everything from tips for the complete beginner to expert level.
The exhibitors included Holt (not sold as of Sunday), Seasure, Ovington, Laserperformance, RWO, Harken, Marlow, Jimmy Green, Sunsail and many more.
