Andy Williams: 'land space is almost all taken'

With six weeks to the 2010 PSP Southampton Boat Show, space sales are ahead of last year, ticket sales are strong, there’s a Type 45 Destroyer and exhibitor events planned, says NBS MD Andrew Williams.

PSP SBS: With just six weeks to go until the gates open on the 2010 PSP Southampton Boat Show, space sales are well ahead of last year, says NBS MD Andrew Williams.

‘Demand for the marina has been extremely good, with 340 marina berths now contracted - which is 62 more berths than last year,’ he added. ‘Due to demand for undercover space we are siting a new marquee in Solent Park (which has subsequently sold out in record time).’

Therefore, says Mr Williams, land space is almost all taken, though we have just one stand left in Mayflower Park due to a recent change.

Very strong ticket sales
And NBS says it’s not just interest from marine businesses that’s high. They’ve sold 6,886 tickets, which is ahead of this time last year which stood at 3,203.

The very latest navy ship
The show will host the Royal Navy’s latest warship, HMS Dauntless, for a three day visit from Sunday 12 – Tuesday 14 September. HMS Dauntless was only commissioned last month, so show visitors will be among the first to board her.

Exhibitor evenings
NBS is again holding a number of evening events – so exhibitors can let their hair down after a long, and hopefully successful, day at the show, with a little bit of networking thrown in as well.

Every evening (except the last Sunday) – post show drinks in the Suzuki-sponsored Marina Bar, which will stay open for exhibitors only from 19.00 to 20.00. NBS says it has negotiated lower priced drinks for all exhibitors showing their badge (what about us hard working journalists? – Ed), so come and wind down after the show. The bar is on the corner of Mayflower Park, overlooking the marina at the top of the marina footbridge.

Sunday 12th – Sunday Dinner at Dockgate 4: a 3-course meal including traditional roast beef, plus live entertainment with music and magicians. At £32 per head it’s a great value night.

Tuesday 14th – MTA Party and Marine Industry Awards in association with Boating Business. Welcome drink, buffet, music and dancing at La Margherita from 19.30 at £15 per person.

Tuesday 14th - Screening of The Day After Peace by Peace One Day at Harbour Lights Cinema, Ocean Village.

Wednesday 15th – Leather and Lycra Charity Night. Runners will be setting off at 19.00 for either the 5km or 10km route while motorbike riders roar off into Dorset.

Wednesday 15th – Join the BMF team for evening drinks and the presentation of the BMF Training Awards.

Friday 17th – Team Karting Challenge @ TSK Gosport, £125 a team for up to 5 drivers. Starts at 20.00 and is a great (competitive) night out.

More information next week on getting the most out of exhibiting, the new exhibitor portal on the website and the new monthly Exhibitor News page in Boating Business.
