Business high and international awards at Pendennis
Restoration, refit and new build company, Pendennis, has been ‘riding on the crest of a wave’ over the past 12 months.
In April the business announced it was enjoying its busiest ever winter season and last year it won two international awards for its refit of the 85.6m superyacht Aquila.
Alongside the launch of its latest new build, 39m SY Vijonara, which uses 3D scanning technology to ensure milimetre precision in the Andre Hoek-designed 39m long sloop, Pendennis is working on several high-profile refits.
These include; a 42m gaff-rigged schooner, Mariette of 1915, a 39m sloop, G2, a 44.75m ketch, Catalina, a 49m motor yacht, a 75m motor yacht, Leander G, a 50m motor yacht and a 42m motor yacht, Project A09. The boatyard also restored a 32m motor yacht, Odyssey III.
Commenting on trends and demand for particular types of work, Pendennis says enquiries are ‘across the board’ and consistent for refit, restoration and new build.
And while, like others in the superyacht sector, the business has concerns over Brexit, from its perspective ‘the industry remains stable’ and is a situation to ‘be closely monitored’.
Pendennis won the Best Refit categories at the 2017 World Superyacht and International Superyacht Society Awards, for a project described as ‘the largest superyacht refit programme ever to be undertaken in the UK, with almost 800sqm of interior and exterior space upgraded and all interior systems modernised during a 12-month period’.
With Aquila’s captain Daryl Chalmers singing the praises of all at Pendennis, citing ‘skills and professionalism’, it’s no surprise to find their order book booming.
