The difference is obvious, really
At the Schroders London Boat Show both Simrad and Raymarine launched autopilots designed specifically for Volvo Penta' s innovative IPS.
So, just to make it obvious which is which, this Raymarine's ST7001+ display that forms part of its Volvo Penta system.
Raymarine says it saw the IPS as an ideal opportunity for Raymarine to add "steer-bywire" to more well-known electro- mechanical or hydraulic drive connecting methods. CAN communication and specially written software is used to link Raymarine's top of the range pilot control heads to a dedicated IPS course computer and data processing unit.
Raymarine's dedicated IPS autopilot will become an integral part of the engine system and will be available late spring '05.
Simrad launched its AC05 Autopilot Computer at London.
It integrates with the AP 25 shown here, plus the AP 16/26/27 autopilots in what Simrad says is the perfect partner for the IPS. Benefits of the AC05 in conjunction with the AP 16/25/ 26/27 include direct rudder command via the CAN interface with no separate rudder feed-back unit and pump.
Simrad autopilots with the AC05 have already proven able to provide high acceleration and sharp turns for excellent handling performance.
Our apologies for the confusion to Simrad and Raymarine. . .
