Volvo Penta says it returned its best figures in the company' s history in the first quarter of 2002, with total sales of SEK1.962m, an increase of 13% on the previous year.

The company's report shows strong increases in all three of the company's business segments - marine leisure, marine commercial and industry.

"Our products have been fantastically well-received in the market. The new marine diesel KAD300 for the leisure segment in particular has exceeded our expectations by a wide margin, and there is a strong demand also for our products in the markets, " says Volvo Penta's president Staffan Jufors.

Marine leisure saw its greatest sales increase in North America. "We did exceptionally well in North America last year, despite a sharp decline in the marine market overall, " said Jufors.

"Now that the market is growing again, our strong market positions are having a very positive effect on sales and income."

Marine leisure posted sales of SEK1.214m (1.116): marine commercial SEK236m (197) and Industrial SEK512m (423).
