Volvo Penta says that - despite declining total markets - the company continues to increase its sales.

The Volvo Group's interim report for the first nine months of 2002 showed total sales during the period amounted to SEK5,946 million, an increase of 8% compared with the corresponding period in the preceding year.

Volvo Penta's three business sectors fared differently, with marine commercial showing the greatest increase at 14%, while the leisure marine division posted figures at 8% up. The industrial division ran lowest of the three at 6% up.

The company says it changed its financial reporting in 2002, which means Volvo Penta's operating income this year is not comparable with the preceding year's result.

Excluding this item affecting comparability, Volvo Penta says its earnings of SEK488 million during the first three quarters is significantly better that in the previous period.

"Our new products have very quickly shown that they create added value for existing as well as new customers, which is reflected in the strong response we received on the market, " commented Staffan Jufors, Volvo Penta's president.
