Vote for the best Thames lock
INLAND WATERWAYS: River Thames users are being asked by the Environment Agency (EA) to vote for the best kept lock on the river as part of its annual waterways awards, writes Harry Arnold.
The Best Lock Site Award rewards the hard work of waterways staff along the river and encourages good customer relations. River users and other members of the public who visit the rural River Thames between Lechlade and Teddington are being asked to vote and when doing so are asked to rate the level of service received at the lock and consider the locks' gardens, general maintenance, cleanliness and availability of information.
Voting opened last Friday 22 July and runs until Sunday 31 October. The winners will be announced in December and everyone who casts a vote this year will be entered into a prize draw with the opportunity to win a 20% discount on a next year's River Thames boat licence.
The 2011 awards are sponsored by Atkins Ltd and Peter Brett Associates LLP.Votes can be cast online at environment-agency.gov.uk/bestthameslock
