Whale wins top NI quality award
Patrick Hurst with Whale staff receives the award from Arlene Foster
AWARD: Bangor based Whale took the top prize at the Northern Ireland Quality Award Gala, held at the Belfast Ramada Hotel, on January 27. Arlene Foster, Minister of Enterprise Trade and Investment made the presentation.
The award recognised Whale as being a quality company delivering the best in innovation and service.
‘It’s a tremendous result for Whale - Munster Simms Engineering - to have won the 2010 Northern Ireland Quality Awards,’ said Whale MD Patrick Hurst. ‘The result is recognition for all the hard work and the excellent attitude our employees have.’
Despite the recession the company has grown, with the past year resulting in the highest sales on record.
‘This is a result of product innovation, striving for excellence and a team of talented individuals all aiming for the same goal – that of outstanding quality,’ said Mr Hurst. ‘This award, along with being listed in the Sunday Times Top 100 Best Small Companies to Work For, are the two highlights of 2010, a year in which the company celebrated 200 years from its origins.’
‘Munster Simms Engineering has joined an elite group of organisations by winning a NI Quality Award,’ said George Wilson, from the awards organising body, Centre For Competitiveness. ‘The process provides an independent, in-depth review of all aspects of an organisation’s activity.’
The company is being recognised as a role model organisation, irrespective of sector, he added. Their splendid achievement provides a ringing endorsement of the benefits of the process and has helped the company to sustain a very high level of performance over time.
‘For the future of Whale we’ll review the assessor’s feedback and continued to set the bar higher for 2011,’ said Mr Hurst.
