Land & Water Services has been awarded a ten-year dredging contract

The Canal & River Trust has awarded a ten-year national dredging contract to Land & Water Services following a competitive tender process.

In addition, the Trust has awarded a seven-year national contract for all mechanical and electrical work on its historic canals and rivers to AMCO Ltd.

The contract covers almost 1,000 pieces of engineering that keep the waterways flowing, from swing bridges, powered locks, pumps and level monitors spread across the network.

The contract will cover maintenance, renewal, upgrades and repairs and will replace the mechanical and electrical maintenance and water and automation contracts, currently held by three separate suppliers.

The contract will cover England and Wales and expands previous work carried out by the company to include mainline, spot and hydrodynamic dredging, vegetation works, professional services, ancillary construction and civil engineering works and construction of fixed and floating moorings.

“We are extremely proud to have secured the national dredging contract. The Canal & River Trust is one of our most valued clients and we look forward to enhancing the strong relationship we have developed over the past 15 years,” said Land & Water Services MD, Adrian Gascoyne. “The opportunities for greater integration and innovation to drive exceptional customer service and sustainable efficiencies are hugely exciting for us.”

This is one of the Trust’s largest single contracts and will replace the current mainline and hydrodynamic dredging contracts currently held by Land & Water.

In 2015/16 the Trust spent more than £7m on dredging its 2,000 miles of waterways.

The contract will start on July 1.
