Customer safety ahead of the season
Herbert Woods is ahead of the game by installing smoke and CO detectors on its hire boats
Norfolk based boat operator Herbert Woods is ensuring each of its 130 cruisers has smoke detectors and CO detectors fitted as standard ready for the 2017 season.
The Broads Authority has made smoke detectors a requirement of the Boat Safety Scheme operated by the Canal & Rivers Trust, but it has not yet reached a decision on the requirement for CO meters to be installed in hire boats.
“On average, there are 89 fire-related accidents and injuries that occur on boats nationally every year,” said Michael Whitaker, partner at Herbert Woods.
“We would like to think we are ahead of the game by installing the smoke and CO detectors well before any of the deadlines set by the Boat Safety Scheme, but really these things should be part of the fixtures and fittings.”
Last year, Herbert Woods was accepted as a ‘quality accredited boatyard’ by British Marine in partnership with Visit England.
