BREXIT: British Marine has released the following statement following the result of the UK referendum where 52% of those voting chose to leave the European Union.

“During the forthcoming negotiations and transition period, British Marine will be on hand to keep members updated and to advise them on how their business may be affected.

It is important for members to note that EU legislation and trading arrangements will still apply while the government negotiates the withdrawal agreement with the EU, which is expected to take a minimum of two years.

As a membership organisation representing over 1,600 member companies from the full breadth of the UK’s marine industry, British Marine has always remained neutral on the question of whether to remain or leave the EU.

The result of the referendum has shown that the majority of the British public who voted wish to leave and during the forthcoming transition period, British Marine will inform and advise all its members and represent the interests of the industry to government.

British Marine will continue to ensure our members are informed about the implications for their businesses and will do so in representing industry concerns to government throughout this transitional period.”
