Adoption of soft attachment systems continues

Allen Brothers’ latest block builds on the company’s adoption of soft attachment systems and block technology.

The new A2360 AutoRatchet complements the A2345 launched last year. It features Allen’s X2 pawl system designed for maximum holding power combined with enhanced response in light airs.

“The Allen A2345 was yet another major innovation from our design team, which patented the world’s first AutoRatchet in the mid-nineties,” said Allen Brothers MD Liz Adams. “Automatic ratchet blocks are now commonplace but when it was originally patented it was a revelation.”

The X2 pawl system incorporates two pawls into the mechanism for the ratchet block allowing the load to be evenly shared between both pawls.

This allows the block to withstand higher working loads while also increasing both the reliability and longevity of the block when compared to Allen’s previous model, explained Liz.

The design has been tested by Team Allen’s sailors with the A2345 already having a number of wins to its credit.

The latest 60mm AutoRatchet signifies Allen’s move up from focussing on dinghies to take into the sports boats and small keelboats market.

“We are now seeing our products fitted on racing yachts as large as Class 40s and TP52s,” added Liz. “We have worked with the leading rope manufacturers to accommodate the characteristics of the latest high-tech materials, so our lightweight yet robust high-performance blocks have come to the attention of a wider audience of racers.”

Soft mounting

Allen has also continued with the development of its range of deck bushes with through deck pad eyes that incorporate a Tii attachment.

A removable attachment pin has been incorporated to allow users to replace the Tii on rope as it wears.

The lower insert is enclosed ensuring the design is watertight and the two parts have flats so they can be tightened and undone with simple tools.

The Tii system comes as a response to growing demand from boat builders for soft mounting systems, as the use of Dyneema rope shackles trickles down from larger classes.
