Panels save on weight
The Malvaux Group launched its Malvaux Marine brand last month with a selection of its products on show at the new British Marine Expo.
Represented in the UK by David Lewin, the company manufactures products for boat interiors including PET foam sandwich panels.
“Boatbuilders want lighter panels to save on weight however they also need to be strong enough to screw fittings and fixtures into so there is a trade off,” David explained.
“Alongside our panels, we’ve now developed lightweight doors with a foam sandwich.”
Another ongoing weight saving project is with Corian products of which Malvaux Marine is an approved supplier.
While the product is known for its solid surface, Malvaux is working on ways of making it lighter by using different boards underneath it.
“We’re looking at different ways of building the carcass,” said David. “We’re working on different fixing methods to make it easier.”
The company is also developing new interior finishes such as high gloss, metallic and leather inset panels.
“We’re building for UK powerboat builders that require all kinds of amazing finishes,” David added.
